2516 - MachXO:
What is the meaning of "I/O Tristate Voltage Applied" and "Dedicated Input Voltage Applied" specified in the Absolute Maximum Ratings section of MachXO data sheet?
Solution:
There are two cases where an IO pad is driven by an external source. One is the case of a dedicated input pad, and the other is a bi-directional IO pad in which its output can be tri-stated. The "Dedicated Input Voltage Applied" and "I/O Tristate Voltage Applied" ranges specified under the Absolute Maximum Ratings section in MachXO data sheet cover these two cases, respectively. Any voltage stress driven from the external source above these ranges may cause permanent damage to the device.
Note that these absolute maximum rating values are not for the normal functional operations. These parameters also have an allowance of -2V to VIHMAX+2V that is only during the instantaneous overshoot and undershoot. The MachXO devices accept this allowance range only for the period of 20ns or shorter. For example, if you have a 3.3V input signal with 15ns overshoot pulses measured at 4.0V, this input signal level is allowed because:
- The 3.3V input is within the absolute maximum rating (-0.5V to 3.75V)
- The 4.0V level during overshoot is also allowed because the overshoot period is shorter than 20ns.

Description: Undershoot and overshoot of -2 V to (Vihmax +2) V is permitted for a duration of less than 20 ns. This applies to the following device families: ECP2, ECP3, ECP5, MachXO, MachXO2, MachXO3. For more information, refer to the Absolute ...
429 - Does input threshold of an IO pin depend on Vcco value?
The short answer is no. The input threshold is ratioed based on internal voltages. If device power supply, Vcc, stays within the recommended operating range as specified in the device data sheet, the internal reference voltage remains the same and so ...
5393 - MACHXO2: what is the condition of I/O when powered down?
Description: MachXO2 devices are designed to ensure predictable behavior during power-up and power-down. During powerup and power-down sequences, the I/Os remain in tri-state until the power supply voltage is high enough (VCCMIN) to ensure reliable ...
5706 - MachXO2/XO3/XO3D: If the input voltage for input pins is over 3.6V or under -0.3V, will there be any problem?
The input signal of more than 3.6 but not greater than (VIHmax + 2 v ) and under -2 v is permitted. However, it should be around 20 ns only; otherwise, the device will be damaged. Please refer to the Device Data Sheet and look for DC and Switching ...
