5918 - MachXO2: What happens to the Lattice FPGA if we break the recommended Logic Signal Connections that shall not exceed a maximum of n * 8 mA?
FPGA’s including Lattice FPGA and other VLSI circuits are connected using thin-film metallic conductors and they are subject to increasingly high current densities. Under these conditions, electromigration can lead to the electrical failure of interconnects in relatively short times, reducing the circuit lifetime to an unacceptable level. It is therefore of great technological importance to understand and control electromigration failure in thin-film interconnects. This is the reason why we recommend to the customer to take care of the Logic Signal Connections table that shall not exceed a maximum of n * 8 mA.
