1456 - Power Calculator: How can the user load a Value Change Dump (VCD) file into Power Calculator?

A Value Change Dump (VCD) file is an ASCII file that describes the state transitions of digital logic. A VCD file can be written by logic simulation tools. Power estimation performed using a VCD file is an improvement over guessing an operating frequency, because the VCD file reflects the actual design behavior.

To include the VCD file for dynamic power calculation in the Lattice Diamond, invoke the Power Calculator tool from the Tools menu. Use the Power Calculator's Edit->Open Simulation File and select the VCD file. The Power Calculator tool uses the data in the VCD file to calculate the dynamic power.

Similarly, in the ispLEVER software, invoke the Power Calculator from the Tools menu. Use the Power Calculator's File->Open Simulation File and select the VCD file.
